'A remarkable fly-on-the-wall account' — Peter Robison, author of Flying Blind
In 1985 Steve Jobs was forced out of Apple, the company he had co-founded. What he did next is one of the least-told chapters of his life: the dozen years he spent building NeXT. It was a period in which Jobs was at his most creative, most vulnerable and most intense — and it remade him as a designer and as a leader, laying the groundwork for his triumphant return to Apple and the company's extraordinary resurgence.
Award-winning journalist Geoffrey Cain finally gives these crucial years their due. Drawing on a trove of new material — including dozens of hours of never-broadcast footage of Jobs at NeXT meetings and retreats, fresh interviews, unpublished oral histories with Jobs and his colleagues, and countless internal documents — Steve Jobs in Exile is the definitive history of the most remarkable period in Jobs's life.
Jobs himself later reflected that being fired from Apple turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to him, freeing him for one of the most creative periods of his life. This is the story of that period.
