The Complete Persepolis — Volumes I & II in one edition, introduced by the author. The classic memoir-in-comic-strips, in the Vintage Classics red livery.
Marjane Satrapi lived through the Iranian Revolution as a little girl. This is her story — the story of a child entangled in the history and politics of her country, told in stark, unforgettable black-and-white panels that have become some of the most recognisable images in comics.
It is a portrait of growing up in revolutionary and war-torn Iran, in a family that was both outrageous and ordinary, beset by tragedy and yet buffered by love: the great-grandfather who was an emperor, the beloved uncle imprisoned by two regimes, the parents who demonstrated by day and threw parties by night. And it follows Marjane out — to a bewildering adolescence in Vienna — and back again, to an Iran she no longer entirely recognises.
Funny, wise and ultimately heartbreaking, Persepolis did for Iran what Maus did for the Holocaust: it made a nation's tragedy legible one household at a time. This edition collects both volumes — The Story of a Childhood and The Story of a Return — complete.

“The magic of Marjane Satrapi's work is that it can condense a whole country's tragedy into one poignant, funny scene after another.” — Independent on Sunday
