Mixed: Explore and Celebrate Your Mixed Identity
1 in stock - Almost gone!
The must-have book for mixed-race children — discover the joy of being wholly yourself, from Emma Slade Edmondson, co-host of the award-winning Mixed Up podcast.
What does it mean to be mixed? To have heritage from more than one place, more than one culture, more than one part of the world? And what does it feel like when people ask you to choose just one?
In this warm, joyful, empowering guide for young readers aged 9-11, Emma Slade Edmondson draws on her own experience as a mixed-race woman — and on the conversations she has hosted with brilliant mixed-race guests like Mel B, Big Zuu, Jordan Stephens, Ben Bailey Smith, and Kit de Waal — to help mixed-race children explore, celebrate, and truly own who they are.
Mixed is packed with:
- Stories, reflections, and prompts to help young readers understand their own heritage and identity
- Practical tools for handling tricky questions, comments, and assumptions
- Inspiring voices and experiences from a wide range of mixed-race people
- A celebration of the joy, complexity, and beauty of being more than one thing at once
For any child who has ever felt caught between worlds, or had to explain themselves more than once — this is the book you wish you'd had. Warm, inclusive, long overdue, and absolutely joyful.
